Meet me at Veteran's Memorial Park on Monday, May 27th at 9am-10am to honor those who lost their lives while defending their country. Although I am not a veteran, I have deep respect for the men and women who served and the sacrifices of their families. Light refreshments will be offered. If you would like a flag to display at your residence, they will be given out while supplies last. Rain or shine.

The Unveiling of the Betsy Ross Airfield Memorial Sign

Yesterday marked another important piece of history in Orange City. The Betsy Ross Airfield Memorial Sign was formally unveiled in the location where the first Woman’s Airport stood a very long time ago.

This means a lot to me. Not only because I love the history that our great city holds. This marks a moment in time where women pilots had a place to train and fly. And Orange City was the chosen place to have it. The VIA Orange City Woman’s Club was very proud to attend and be part of this.

Thank you Council woman Fran Darms for singing the national anthem and Vice-mayor Alex Tiamson for the prayer.

Also, I want to thank everyone that attended: our Vice Mayor Alex Tiamson, the Orange City staff, Orange City Police Department, Orange City Fire Department, the Orange City Historical Preservation Board. Thank you to Kim Reading and to staff for bringing this idea to life! Special thanks to the Spruce Creek Fly-In Community for joining us and all of our The Ninety-Nines, Inc, International Organization of Women Pilots who came out ✈️ The fly by was really cool!

Starting a NEW tradition in Orange City for the Memorial Holiday!

Monday, May 29th-9am-10am

 Veterans Memorial Park

467 S. Volusia Ave, Orange City, FL 32763

Orange City, FL – Kelli Marks, a candidate for Orange City Mayor-2024 will be having a Meet-Up for Memorial Day to honor the Veterans that are currently serving or have served and their families on Monday, May 29, 2023. Please join us for some light refreshments and a commemoration of our veterans.

In addition, Marks Campaign will be flag dusting residents in Orange City for the Memorial Holiday. There will be flags available for pick-up at this Meet-up while supplies last. Marks wanted to provide an opportunity for the community to come together to honor our fallen veterans. “This is a tradition that I have wanted to start for a while. It is going to be awesome to drive around and see the red, white and blue paint the streets”. If you receive a flag and do not want to participate you can just text the number on the postcard attached.

The goal is to remove the postcard and keep your flag posted in honor of the veterans. Then put the flag back out for the other patriotic holidays such as Flag Day, Fourth of July, etc.… Some of the proceeds of this flag dusting project went to support our soldiers in need. The postcards are attached by a seal from Soldiers’ Angels non-profit organization. The mission of Soldiers' Angels is to provide aid, comfort, and resources to the military, veterans, and their families.  Their motto is “May No Soldier Go Unloved”.
